Description
Plateau Rosa is a platform at 3480 m above sea level located in the Italian Alps of the Aosta Valley
Virtual visit to the Plateau Rosa monitoring laboratory for greenhouse gases in front of the Matterhorn mountain, one of the highest in the western Alps.
There is the Guide del Cervino refuge as well as the Italian and Swiss border and customs police station, the Air Force meteorological station and the Gray Head Laboratory of the CNR where RSE installed the equipment for monitoring greenhouse gases and of meteorological variables.
The choice of Plateau Rosa for the installation of an atmospheric greenhouse gas monitoring station is linked to the fact that this site is generally placed above the atmospheric mixing layer, it is distant from large human, industrial and large communication, and, with particular reference to CO2, vegetative activity is almost zero in the areas close to it.
